NAVS is involved throughout the world in a great variety of projects. One such project is an ethical recycled paper & greetings card business in Peru called 'Esperanza'. The project was set up in 2003 by two British studentNAVS graduates.
Esperanza produces a range of carefully handmade cards using beautiful homemade recycled paper.
Esperanza is based on the outskirts of the city of Trujillo, north Peru, where, as in most parts of Peru, many, many workers are under-employed and under paid. Marketing their work in the UK has given Esperanza producers the opportunity to develop in skills and creativity whilst experiencing an improved quality of life through the fair price they receive for their work.
When you order these cards you are not only sending your family and friends beautiful handmade cards you are giving someone a fairly paid and dignified job where there are few opportunities. Overheads are kept low so that 60% of the cost of a card goes directly into the wages of the producers. One pack of cards provides a days wages for one worker.
